Susan B. Anthony Dollar (1979-1999)
The Susan B. Anthony dollar was minted in 1979 to honor this pioneer in women's rights. It was
the first time a real woman appeared on a circulating U.S. coin. This dollar was designed by Frank Gasparro, Chief engraver of the Mint, and displayed the
portrait of Susan B. Anthony facing right on the obverse. LIBERTY was placed above, the date below, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST to her right. The 13
stars theme was present on the obverse as well. The reverse design is the same as that used on the Ike Dollar and has an eagle landing on the moon, an
adaptation of the official Apollo 11 insignia. The mintmark can be found on the obverse, above Anthony's right shoulder.
